The Greater Orlando Chapter #73 will continue to grow as a
professional association within our community. This year’s theme is “Key to
Success”. It will be my goal to show
each member that she holds the key to her success both personally and
professionally through NAWIC. Our strength is in our growing numbers; my goal
is to unite everyone toward our common goals. “To enhance the success of women
in the construction industry.” That’s a
big job so let’s start with the women in our chapter and within our community.
Remember, large construction projects are completed one task at a time.
Having our Annual National Convention right here in Orlando gave many
of us the opportunity we have been waiting for. The Professional Seminars and
Association Workshops were not only in abundance, but very informative and
motivational. Thank you National; for adding some “Keys to Success” on our key
chain.
I will work closely with our Board and Committees to
continue to bring value to each member and in turn to our community through our
monthly meetings and various events. These women are fantastic and during our
Team Building Session in August, they discovered how each committee is
connected and how they could help each other succeed and the creative ideas
just kept coming! This will indeed be an exciting year.
Our monthly speakers will broach topics encompassing several
aspects within our Industry. We will continue to offer not only construction
certification classes such as the Construction Industry Technician (CIT) and Construction
Document Specialist (CDS) but also a Blueprint Reading class has been added.
Our Block Kids and CAD programs are already well on their
way. We have the support of our local schools insuring an interest in the
future of the Construction Industry and the professional careers it has to
offer. We will also work to bring a new program to our chapter called Magic.
This program for high school girls will empower them to look to the
Construction Industry for their future careers.
Our annual Golf Tournament has continued to be a success as
a chapter fun raiser, which allows us to undertake many events and projects
throughout the year. We have listened to several suggestions and are
streamlining this event in order to accommodate a larger turnout.
We will continue our community projects through Mending
Hearts Charities, by completing the renovation of the house on Kaley Ave. Christmas
in July, Back to School, Can Food
Drive, and Senior Stockings will once
again bring smiles to those less fortunate and to us as we see the impact we
have on our community.
This year we will once again host our Bi-annual Casino
Night. The Board and Scholarship committee are working hard to create a
self-sustaining scholarship program through the proceeds earned by Casino
night.
I am both honored and excited to be President of Chapter #73
and I look forward to all the doors we will open this year.
